Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is a large and complex issue, both in society as well as people’s personal lives. It comes naturally to some, but for most people it is a skill that requires preparation, practice and patience. You will likely find that educating yourself, creating a community of people around you for practical assistance, and accessing professional support if needed will hugely impact your experience of breastfeeding.

I am hugely passionate about breastfeeding, and love to support people local to Coffs Harbour in the following ways:

Breastfeeding 101: the basics
This evening session is a chance for pregnant people and their partner or support person to learn the basics of breastfeeding so they can feel prepared and informed about what to expect, and draw on this knowledge when their little one arrives.
The evening will cover:
- Birth: feeding and the ‘golden hour’ after baby is born
- Mum: what to expect in those first few days ie changes in your breasts, how to manage them etc
- Baby: feeding cues, normal baby feeding behaviours over the first few days including frequency, how to know they're getting enough
- Breasts: how they know how much milk to make, changes to milk in the first few days
- Technique: positioning and attachment, ways to feed your baby if not BF
- Expressing: techniques, when it may be needed etc.
- Support: the importance of partner support, and what they can do to help (seeing they usually can’t breastfeed!)
- Resources: what other support is available
These sessions are held in person at the Women's Health Centre on a weekday evening, and Online in between.
