Mother (or parent) Blessings
In a culture where we often have baby showers where material gifts are given, lavish decorations and food organized, guessing games maybe played, but uncertainty permeates what is to come... Where birth and postpartum are severely underprepared for (with 50% of mothers diagnosed with depression in the first 2 years of their baby's life and suicide the 3rd biggest cause of maternal death in the first year) I know there can be something different. Something more honouring, more nourishing, more meaningful. Something richer. Something deeper and longer lasting.
I'm so passionate about honouring the transition to parenthood, and a Blessing is one way to really nourish and support a parent-to-be as they head into birth and postpartum. Facilitating Mother (or parent) Blessings is something I LOVE doing, and I'd be honoured to work with you to create something truly nourishing. to talk about what you like!
Blessings!
At a time that a pregnant person nears the birth portal, somewhere in the 3rd trimester, a Mother Blessing is a beautiful, nourishing, celebratory and yet sacred gathering. Women, sisters, other families, friends; whoever you choose to surround you in this ceremony will nourish and honour you. We share our hopes and our blessings with you, showering you with love and care, and we plant the seeds for postpartum - that you are held, loved, supported and cared for practically and emotionally with these people who care for you being present for you on this day and into the future.
As I understand it, in the Navajo (native American) culture, a Blessingway is a ritual performed over multiple days to create harmony and balance, and to restore equilibrium to the cosmos. There are many circumstances in which this ceremony is performed, one of which is to prevent complications of pregnancy.
